Exhalation Valve Diaphragm also known as expiratory valve, membrane diaphragm, diaphragm valve. It is a disc diaphragm made of medical grade silicone overmolding with / bonding to metal, aluminum by compression transfer molding, lsr injection molding. They are usually used for ventilator, respirator, anesthesia breathing circuit, ambu bag in medical industry.
A silicone membrane diaphragm will bonding to metal or aluminum by overmolding process to function as expiratory & exhalation valve, and sealing valve, generally. If the structure design won't take the problem may caused in production into consideration, it is easy to find deformation of overmolded parts, especially aluminum, in production process.
What will cause exhalation valve diaphragm production failure?
1. Unreasonable sealing design between rubber diaphragm and substrate
2. The mold used with insufficient precision, and improper production process control, including the amount of raw material placed in cavities, the pressure setting of molds, and the ways of applying glue on subtrates
3. Improper location for substrates
Solution & design tips
Molding ways selection
Transfer injection overmolding and liquid silicone rubber overmolding are recommended to exhalation valve diaphragm bonding with light and thin subtrates because the silicone material will flow to cavities slowly and equably after the mold plates closed.
Location design in exhalation valve diaphragm, especially for some light insert parts
Adding supporting points for exhalation valve diaphragm to avoid deformation
Due to aluminum is not hard enough, it is easy to deform because the impact force when mold plates closed and for the aluminum bonding to silicone area, it is difficult to vent.

Feasibility Analysis
Prototype & Mass Production
We support custom made any material membrane diaphragm, including liquid silicone rubber, EPDM, Buna N & Nitrile Rubber, Neoprene / CR, Fluorocarbon rubber (FKM, FPM, Viton), Fluorosilicone rubber.
The overmolding agent is needed to apply to the substrate prior to help in forming a tie layer between the silicone exhalation valve and the surface of the substrate being used. The selection of the overmolding agents depends on the component design, modulus of the silicone rubber, and the rubber type to be overmolded. The mechanical bonding is achieved by mold overmolding while the chemical bonding is realized by applying glue primer, which makes the membrane diaphragm and the substrates have stronger bonding.
We also provide off-the-shelf & custom madeone way valve like umbrella valve, duckbill valve, cross slit dispensing valve.
