Rubber Wire Grommet, are also known as Rubber Cable Grommet, Cable Hole Grommet and Silicone Grommet for Wire, which are widely used to protect wires, tubes from harm of abrasion damage. Silicone rubber Grommets are also usually used as vibration dampers, finishing components and even spacers. When the size is right, rubber grommets can easily snap into the pre-drilled panel hole. Silicone grummets perform very well with plastic, metal or other materials. The purpose of silicone grommet is to protect the wires from being cut easily by sharp plate cuttings, and at the same time, it is dustproof and waterproof. It is widely used in various fields such as electronics, electrical appliances, machinery, sports equipment, furniture, and lighting.
Rubber Wire Grommet Material
Rubber Wire Grommet can be made from SBR, NBR, EPDM, CR and Silicone. Hardness from 35 to 80 shore A. The most popular material is SBR 65+/-5 Shore A. For special purpose rubber grommets, such as good aging, high temperature resistance….. silicone rubber is a better choice.
EPDM Rubber Wire Grommet have excellent Ozone aging resistance , Weather aging resistance & Heat resistance.
Nitrile Rubber Grommet Seal have Excellent oil resistance, good wear resistance, good temperature resistance & good adhesiveness, while there are also disadvantages of NBR grommet, like Poor low-temperature & ozone resistance, Poor insulation, and low elasticity.
SBR Rubber Grommet Seal, Compared with NR, it has better abrasion resistance, anti-aging stability and heat resistance. However, SBR Rubber Grommet Seal itself also withstands some disadvantages, like low elasticity, poor flexibility resistance, tear resistance and processing. Especially, the self-adhesion is poor and the raw rubber strength is low. Its working temperature range is 50℃~100℃.
Neoprene Rubber GrommetSeal features Good Physical Properties, Oil resistance, heat & flame resistance, sunlight resistance, ozone resistance, acid and alkali resistance and chemical resistance.

Rubber Wire Grommet Design Guide
E- Rubber Grommet groove width should approximately match the thickness of the installation wall.
B- Rubber Grommet groove diameter should approximately match the installation hole size.
A, C and D- Rubber Grommet dimensions are typically less critical depending on the application.
Rubber Wire Grommet Mold Structure
Rubber Grommet Seal designs with hole or undercuts, will require to add a middle plate. 2 plate mold tools consist of one parting plane and mold splits in two halves. Whereas three plate mold consist of two parting planes and mold splits in three sections as the followed picture shows:
Two Plate: for Simple part designs typically only require a two plate mold, which includes a cavity side and a core side. After the material is loaded, the mold plates are assembled and inserted into a compression molding press between the two platens. Next the press is clamped to a set pressure to produce high quality parts. Heat and pressure are applied for a given amount of time allowing the silicone to spread throughout the mold cavity and cure. Then pressure is released from the press, which then opens the mold when the molding process is OK, then remove the silicone parts by hand. This completes a normal compression molding cycle for a simple silicone part design.
Being a tool of increased complexity, the three-plate mould is, therefore, more time-consuming and expensive to manufacture than its two-plate cousin.
Three Plate: For part designs with hole or undercuts, it will require to add a middle plate, like silicone grommet, rubber grommet, rubber bellows, etc. 2 plate mold tools consist of one parting plane and mold splits in two halves. Whereas three plate mold consist of two parting planes and mold splits in three sections as the followed picture shows:
Rubber Wire Grommet Application
Rubber Grommet Seals are usually used to cover the rough and sharp edges of a hole in metal. Rubber grommet seals are also important parts in automotive applications. They are used to protect lines, wires and cables from chafing or grazing on rough surfaces. They can also effectively reduce vibration and are used to seal different important under-the-hood and body applications. In general, rubber grommets seals are more commonly used to protect or cover holes and to protect cables or wires from sharp corners or edges.
